"Ocean's 11" just opened in San Francisco this week to a positive
review. However, there was one tidbit that's too good not to highlight:

In an example of casting clout gone awry, Soderbergh casts Julia Roberts as Tess, who tanks every scene she's in with her sour, self-righteous performance. The good news is that she's not in many scenes.

Today I join the blogging ranks, keeping company with Jonno, David, Slutboy, RuPaul, and thousands of others. It's something I've wanted to do for quite a while, but per my usual modus operandi, I got hung up in the minutia - how should it look, where should I host it, do I really have anything to say, etc. It's all part of my being INTJ, I guess: analysis paralysis.

BTW, this could be a long post... depends on my partner D's patience in listening to me type away on my iBook while sitting on the sofa next to him.

Anyway, today I decided to use Blogspot and Blogger for hosting and posting and I'll go with the default templates until I have time to get the "look" right. Because I now have tons to tell.

In a nutshell, D's mother died in April five days after I was laid off from a consulting firm in San Francisco. I then spent a fruitless 8 months looking for work in the Bay Area while he worked at a job that he hated in a city he didn't care for. Looking for a job in San Francisco during a recesssion (I knew it was a recession in March) isn't fun. I had one firm tell me I didn't have enough high tech experience (after ~20 years in the freakin' industry) while the last one I talked to told me that although they're making their numbers, they still need another $10MM to get to "the path to profitability". I may be a relative newbie to SF, but I know high risk when I hear it.

And today my unemployment benefits ran out.

Fortunately, the afternoon of the day I'd talked to the "P2P" folks I got a call from Tulane University in New Orleans telling me that I'd been accepted into their Executive MBA program. D had his bags packed as soon as I told him - he grew up in southern Louisiana, once lived in New Orleans, and has family/friends there. So we're moving to New Orleans in January.

I expect the next few posts will fill in some blanks and relate our last days in San Francisco. Then the real adventure begins: life in New Orleans!
